Description
Through The Wall Of Perception (2026)
Original Fine Art Painting by Ashvin Harrison
Artwork Description:
Through The Wall Of Perception explores the invisible barriers we construct around ourselves—and what might exist on the other side when we finally have the courage to break through them.
A woman emerges through a fractured surface, yet rather than looking outward, she covers her eyes with both hands. It creates an intentional contradiction: physically she has broken through, but psychologically she is not yet ready to see what lies beyond. The work becomes a meditation on fear, vulnerability, perception and the uncomfortable space between transformation and acceptance.
Behind her, darkness erupts into an immense field of expressive colour. Burnt orange, ochre, gold, blue and earthy tones collide through layers of splashed and gestural paint, creating something that can be read as thought, memory, emotion or consciousness itself. The fractured white surface around her body makes the transition feel physical, as though the figure is literally forcing herself beyond the boundaries of an old reality.
Butterflies emerge throughout this turbulent inner world. Their presence changes the meaning of the chaos: what initially appears overwhelming also contains transformation, possibility and new life. Some are immediately visible while others become absorbed into the complexity of the abstraction, encouraging the viewer to continue searching.
There is no single prescribed interpretation. The wall may represent fear, grief, self-doubt, expectation, identity or simply the limitations created by our own perception. The covered eyes raise the deeper question: is breaking through enough if we are still afraid to look?
Created through Harrison’s signature combination of highly detailed coconut charcoal realism with expressive acrylic and oil abstraction, the work embodies the central philosophy of Motusrealism—using the tension between the recognisable and the uncontrolled to explore emotional states that realism alone cannot fully describe.
Through The Wall Of Perception is ultimately about the difficult moment before change becomes freedom: when the barrier has already broken, the old world is behind us, and all that remains is finding the courage to open our eyes.
