Description

Lion Of The Liquid Labyrinth (2025)

Artwork Description:

Lion of the Liquid Labyrinth is an original fine art painting by Ashvin Harrison, created in 2025 as a commissioned work inspired by an earlier piece and expanded into a more immersive exploration of consciousness, power, and modern identity. Monumental in scale and presence, the artwork examines the intersection between instinct and intellect, silence and signal, order and chaos.

At the centre of the composition, a lion is rendered in meticulous charcoal realism. Calm, direct, and unwavering, his gaze holds a quiet authority — strength without aggression, leadership without spectacle. Resting over his ears are golden headphones, symbolising selective listening, inner focus, and the conscious choice of what influences the mind.

From the lion’s mane erupts a vast, liquid field of motion. Layers of blue, teal, midnight tones, and deep shadow surge outward in expressive splashes and fine energetic lines, forming a labyrinth of thought and emotion. Flecks of gold shimmer within the abstraction, catching the light and shifting as the viewer moves, reinforcing the idea that perception itself is fluid.

The tailored suit introduces a subtle human element, referencing civilisation, systems, and the structures placed upon instinct. A delicate butterfly appears quietly within the composition, offering contrast — transformation alongside power, fragility beside control, evolution beside tradition.

This work speaks to the modern condition: navigating noise, information overload, and external influence while attempting to remain centred, grounded, and authentic. Through Harrison’s Motusrealism language, realism anchors the subject while abstraction reveals the unseen forces that shape thought, identity, and behaviour.

Lion of the Liquid Labyrinth is both a portrait and a psychological landscape — an invitation to reflect on leadership, self-mastery, and the courage to listen inward when the world grows loud.
