Secret Sunset Tree is a striking original fine art collaboration — the first ever of its kind by Ashvin Harrison, created in partnership with Romanian abstract artist Flavia Birsan. The work emerges from a layered duality: Birsan’s emotive white underpainting evokes winter’s silence and the void of potential, while Harrison’s expressive realism blooms across its surface like autumn remembering summer.

At its center stands a monumental tree — its trunk brushed over textured linen canvas with the charcoal of Harrison’s signature realism. Its grand, grounded form spreads into a crown of wild orange, amber, and gold — a splashing of colour that drips and dances like falling leaves suspended in time. The foliage bursts in all directions, as if the tree itself is releasing a memory into the world.

Nestled in the base of the trunk is a dreamlike doorway, glowing in rich sunset hues. Inside, a child walks forward, suitcase in hand — a visual metaphor of curiosity, independence, and the bittersweet pull of change. The dreamscape within the tree shifts the scene from mere nature to an emotional parable, inviting reflection on life’s turning points, the innocence of beginnings, and the silent promise of paths not yet taken.

This piece was created in a reverse process unique to this work. Starting with Birsan’s abstract white groundwork, Harrison then splashed paint across the canvas. He added charcoal realism, layered a second wave of expressive splashes, and finally painted the glowing interior. Thus, crafting a visual story that unfolds from chaos into calm, and from external to internal world.
